Prepare.  Plan.  Achieve.

PREPARE

STEM planning starts early.  As in 7th grade early. Does your child excel in Math or Science or show an interest in Legos and Coding?  Consider investigating the possibility of a STEM/STEAM path.

Our guidance will direct you to the right summer programs and camps in the pre-High School years to the competitions, fly-in programs and invitation programs in the High School years.  The beginning years (pre-High School and early High School) are very important and will prepare the student for consideration at the best STEM/STEAM college programs.

As the student enters High School, we assist in planning the academic courses to choose, AP classes to take and the required Standardized tests to take.

Starting the college planning process in 11th grade is too late.

PLAN

Starting in 9th grade, the planning process begins.  The focus is now on summer STEM camps and activities as well as potential internships or events that are attractive to college admissions officers.

Start to develop the key material for the Common App and supplementary, organized into one document (10th grade):

  • classes completed and grades

  • standardized tests completed and scores

  • extra-curricular activities and programs attended with dates

  • recommendation letters

Planning the number of colleges to apply to and compiling the college admission requirements will help with the application process by combining all the information into one document (11th grade).

This document aids in completing the college applications quickly and efficiently.

ACHIEVE

Starting in the spring of 11th grade, college tours start.  Before the start of senior year, 5-6 schools should be chosen that the student will apply to and potential scholarships earmarked.

It helps to organize the application requirements for each school, such as number of supplemental essay, resumes and recommendations, to name a few.

Student should have a prepared resume including relevant classes completed, STEM related activities highlighted, and internships or work-study programs attended.

Achieving a less-stressful application process is possible IF time has been spent to PREPARE and PLAN.
